Plan Your Visit: Sunday 8 February

The Llanelli Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday. WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre is open as usual. Access is maintained from the Loughor Bridge side, but the road from the Machynys side will be closed until around 11am. All roads should reopen as normal from 11am. Map and full info here.

British Steel Hide

Some good birds out on the estuary recently, with a Slavonian Grebe, Red-breasted Merganser and Great Crested Grebe. On the Saline Lagoons there have been good numbers of waders including: Bar-tailed Godwit, Spotted Redshank, Jack Snipe, Snipe, Greenshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Redshank, Dunlin, Knot and Curlew. The seven Spoonbills are still around but only tend to spend time on the Saline Lagoons at high tide. On the Dafen Scrapes a good variety of wildfowl including: Pochard, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Wigeon, Shelduck and Mallard. There has also been a few Water Pipits, mostly feeding around the far lagoon.

Millennium Wetlands

The Otter was seen hunting in the small inlet just below the Herons wing hide this morning. There is a good selection of wildfowl which includes: Pochard, Shoveler, Teal and Gadwall. In the trees there have been a few Goldcrests and Treecreepers along with larger groups of Long-tailed Tits.
