Recent sightings 30th October - 5th November

British Steel hide

A flock of 10 spoonbill continue to be seen regularly on the saline lagoon. Kingfishers have been seen hunting right in front of the hide. Barnacle geese and garganey have been spotted among the wintering waterfowl species. Sparrowhawks can be seen patrolling the air above the lagoons. A high tide this weekend is likely to draw in large flocks of waders, such as curlew, which reached flocks of over 300 individuals this week.


Millennium Wetland

Water rail continue to be heard in the more remote areas of the reserve and jackdaw have been seen in very large flocks of up to 5000 birds. Redwing sightings are becoming more frequent as the season progresses. Other notable sightings include red kites over the eastern scrape, otters across multiple areas of the reserve, and field voles and grass snakes hiding near the footpaths of the millennium wetlands.
