British Steel Hide

Due to high tides this week we have had very good counts for a lot of the waders. This includes, 117 snipe, 295 redshank, 250 curlew and one whimbrel in amongst them. Three meadow pipits were also out on the marsh but when it was much less flooded. We currently have six spoonbills on the saline lagoon. It's nice to see the green sandpipers have returned to the freshwater lagoon in recent weeks.

Millennium Wetlands

Two otters have been swimming in deep water lake again and it seems the best time to see them is early morning. We are currently trying to work out their route in and out of the reserve so we can catch them on camera again. A ring neck duck was spotted on the lake on monday too which was a nice surprise to shake up these 'lockdown' days. Lapwing numbers have been increasing on the millenium wetlands as they get ready to start nesting on the island and western scrapes in march. A flock of the ever distinctive siskin have been demolishing our supplies of niger seed in the feeders.
