The Llanelli Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday. WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre is open as usual. Access is maintained from the Loughor Bridge side, but the road from the Machynys side will be closed until around 11am. All roads should reopen as normal from 11am. Map and full info here.

Recent sightings 23rd - 26th January

A large variety of birds have been seen from the British Steel hide recently.

British Steel Hide

A large variety of birds have been seen from the British Steel hide recently, waders include 318 Curlew, 370 Black-tailed Godwit, 185 Redshank, 2 Spotted Redshank, 18 Greenshank, 7 Snipe and 3 Dunlin. Wildfowl spotted 573 Teal, 620 Shelduck, 230 Pintail, 70 Wigeon, Pochard, Gadwall, Mallard, Brent Goose and Greylag Goose. Also 105 Lapwing, Great Crested Grebe and Red-breasted Merganser. Good variety of raptors seen - 2 Kestrel, Merlin, Goshawk, Peregrine and Buzzard.

Millennium Wetlands

Plenty to be seen around the wetlands as well, on deep water lake there has been Shoveler, Pochard, Shelduck, Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall, Mallard, Little Grebe, Little Egret and Grey Heron. Waders spotted include Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit and Snipe. Lapwing numbers are slowly increasing on the front of the main island in deep water lake, visible from the Peter Scott and Heron's wing hides. The otter continues to be regularly seen around the lake successfully hunting for fish, sightings are regularly from both of the hides or from the screens on the northern loop. Other birds seen across the reserve include Redwing, Siskin, Treecreeper, Skylark, Goldcrest, Greenfinch, Chiffchaff, Great-spotted Woodpecker and Green Woodpecker.
