A model couple of weeks at WWT Martin Mere
Its full steam ahead at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre as we are hosting two indoor model weekends: Model Train Show on Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 January and Model Boat Show on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 February.
All the family will be entertained by local model boat and train societies as they bring a vast array of layouts to entertain visitors in the warmth of the building. There will be over 60 model boats, tanks and an 8ft aircraft carrier at the Model Boat weekend and 9 large train layouts at the Model Train weekend including a giant Lego train set and the fantastic Thomas the Tank Engine layout to allow children to drive the trains.
Centre Manager, Andy Wooldridge, said: “The model weekends we have done in the past have been so popular that we wanted to extend this year to make them bigger and better. It is great to do events like this to ensure we are continually offering new experiences at Martin Mere, especially if we can work with local clubs and societies. We have lots of new activities planned in 2013 and we are hoping for another very good year.”
There will also be plenty to do outdoors as the winter migrants: 2400 Whooper Swans are fed on the Mere at 3pm and 3.30pm everyday as well as taking the opportunity to walk around the wildlife gardens, hand feed birds from all over the world, watch the otter feeds at 11.30am and 2.30pm and learn about the conservation work of WWT. To warm up after these activities you can sample the delights of our Mere Side Café.
Normal admission charges apply at the model boat and train show and there is no extra charge to take part in the event.
WWT Martin Mere is open every day from 9.30am to 5pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via theSouthporttoManchesterand theLiverpooltoPrestonline by train from Burscough Rail Stations.
