Families can swap the spooky for a SUPER Natural Halloween adventure at WWT Washington this October half term.
Running from 24 October to 1 November, this unmissable week-long event invites families to discover the wonders, wildlife and folklore of wetlands through a programme of hands-on activities, wildlife encounters and seasonal fun.
Designed with younger children in mind, SUPER Natural offers a scare-free way to celebrate Halloween, encouraging families to get outdoors, explore nature and uncover the nature-bursting and mood-boosting superpowers of wetlands.
On arrival, visitors can pick up a SUPER Natural logbook and set off on a magical wetland adventure, with plenty to discover around the reserve throughout the day.
Visitors can enjoy a spellbinding selection of seasonal entertainment:
- Willow wands and marshland potions – get creative with nature-inspired wand making and colourful potion mixing.
- Reserve walk: Birds of Myth and Superstition – explore the fascinating stories, symbolism and folklore surrounding some of our wetland birds.
- Fairy ring wreaths – create a magical wreath using natural treasures inspired by the reserve.
- Owl pellet dissecting workshop – investigate the clues hidden inside an owl pellet and uncover what it has been eating.
- Pond dipping – delve beneath the surface and discover some of the tiny creatures living in our wetlands.
- Minibeast hunt – search for the small but mighty creatures that make their homes around the reserve.
- Wet Wood wild things trail – follow a self-led trail and uncover hidden natural wonders along the way.
There’s even more seasonal fun to enjoy, with spooky shortbread decorating available every day in the Waterside Café for £2 per biscuit.
Participation in SUPER Natural at WWT Washington is included with the price of admission and is free to WWT members.
