Arundel sightings

Duck numbers have taken a sharp rise the last few days with nearly 30 Shoveler, 50 Teal, 100 Gadwall, 30 Tufted duck and the usual Mallard. Snipe are becoming a more regular site from most of the hides and Water rail are squealing in most of the suitable areas around the reserve.

Still the odd summer migrants moving through such as Whitethroat, Chiffchaff and Blackcap.

A slight rise in Blackbird and Song thrush would seem to suggest movements of these from the continent. This could mean the arrival of Redwing and Fieldfare to the south very shortly.

Highlight yesterday was a Marsh tit calling and flitting around the edge of Woodlands secrets. A bird that used to be much more regularĀ on the site but only a handful of sightings in recent years.

Other goodies around the reserve include Goldcrest, Firecrest, Red kite, Grey wagtail, Green woodpecker and Kingfishers.
