First Whooper Swans arrived today.
Six Whooper Swans on the Mere this morning signal the first returning birds from their breeding grounds in Iceland. Pretty sure this is the earliest we have had them arrive on the reserve. Generally we wouldn't expect larger numbers to arrive until mid Oc

Whooper Pond Our first Whooper Swan dropped into the Pond this morning. It stayed until around 10am then flew out towards the Solway. As it flew we could see it had a yellow ring but didnt get any letter from it. Tufted Duck 12 Shoveler 2 Folly Pond Black

Today's sightings so far..

Today's sightings-Trio of transatlantic waders

Pectoral sandpipers
There are still 2 Pectoral sandpipers on the reserve and we are opening an extra section of the summer walk to allow closer access. This terrain will be wet and muddy and we ask visitors that they keep to the signposted route.
