WWT Martin Mere featured on Countryfile

WWT Martin Mere and local farmer, Robert Webster, are to be featured on BBCs Countryfile on Sunday 9 January.

Popular presenter, Adam Henson, visited Martin Mere in December whilst Countryfile was filming in Lancashire. The theme of the feature is how the Centre works in partnership with the local farmers for the benefit of the local community as well as learning about why we attract so many swans over the winter.

Centre Manager, Andy Wooldridge, said: “It was a privilege to meet Adam and the Countryfile team. We have developed a very good relationship with local farmers over the last 35 years as Martin Mere has developed and welcomed larger numbers of birds and visitors; so it will be a joy to have this relatively unknown element of our work featured on Countryfile”.

The BBC recorded Robert Webster dropping off potatoes for the geese and swans to feed on the mere, an interview with Assistant Reserve Warden, Tom Clare as well as Adam undertaking a swan feed with a record number of Whooper swans, 1940.
