A chilly start to the week with a brisk wind that dropped during the day and plenty of sunshine.

An increase in Oystercatcher with 41 birds, 1000+ Lapwing, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 10+ Snipe and 2 Redshank.

No wildfowl counts recently but 1000's of birds present.

A six species of raptor day with Merlin, Peregrine, 5 Marsh Harrier, 4+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Two Tawny Owl seen today and Barn Owl out early on.

Other reports included Water Rail from the Ron Barker Hide. Kingfisher from the Hale Hide and at least 4 Stonechat out on the reserve fields.

Plenty of Reed Bunting visiting the feeding stations. Minimum 30 Tree Sparrow by the Kingfisher Hide, Goldcrest in that area too. At least 50 Stock Dove present.

If you are visiting Martin Mere for the first time and would like to know what is around and the best areas to see specific species do call in at the in focus shop, next to the Discovery Hide which over looks the Mere. It should be possible to see over 60 species in a day without too much difficulty.
