Homeschoolers discover Nocturnal Nature this October

New sessions help home schoolers discover what wetland creatures live on the reserve at night during these daytime sessions.

Homeschoolers discover Nocturnal Nature this October

On Wednesdays in October home schooling families can do daytime sessions with our WWT Arundel Learning team to discover the world of bats, owls and other animals that roam the wetlands at night.

These sessions are perfect for home schooled children in Key Stage 2 (7yrs-11yrs of age). Each child is required to bring an adult while they spend a two hour session with our Learning Team on the theme of Nocturnal Nature.

Activities include:

  • Dissecting an owl pellet and discover what our resident barn owls have had for dinner
  • Creating a 'Batty about Bats' masterpiece in a craft workshop
  • Boarding a boat safari and find out all about our nocturnal nature and where they curl up to sleep during daylight hours

Then visitors are free roam the reserve spotting wildlife, walking the reedbed and enjoying the play area!

A Nocturnal Nature session costs £10 per child, with their one adult admitted free. The sessions must be booked online in advance and run on the first three Wednesdays in September.

This exclusive new event is available only during the month of October. Our September the ‘Dive into Dragonflies’ home school sessions were very popular. In these sessions the children went pond dipping, created a dragonfly craft and went on the boat safaris. They also recieved Dragonfly Spotter cards, Challenge cards and headbands.

Home schooling parent @claireasgharstevens said on Instagram: "We had an excellent day at WWT Arundel learning about dragonflies!"
