The weather may be hot and dry but the wetlands are green and lush with shady spots to chill out in. Here are our Super Seven tips to try during your family visit this August!

Join the Junior Wildlife Rangers

Join the fun and become a Junior Wetland Rangers this summer! Follow in the footsteps of our real-life rangers and help with our daily mission to save wetland nature. Pick up your free Junior Wetland Rangers Record Book and set off for a full day of discovery and adventure with eight wetland ranger activities.

Try a Pond Dip

Meet our Learning Team at the Raised Pond to uncover incredible underwater life with a net and tray. Family dipping sessions for up to six people run in the morning and afternoon each day. Book at the admissions desk - a £3 donation per family to help us cover costs would be gratefully appreciated.

Pop into Pelican Cove

Say hello to our incredible Dalmatian Pelicans –the largest pelicans in the world with a 10 foot wingspan!Meet one of our friendly Keepers at Pelican Cove each day a 2 pm. They will answer your questions about Nebula, Rogue, Storm and Valkyrie - our four female Pelicans and any of the other amazing birds from the living collection at Arundel Wetland Centre.

Chill Out in the Shade

Beat the heat with some wetland shade. Chill out in the woven willow hideaway at the end of the Tranquil Trail. Discover the hidden glade of the wildlife garden covered by a leafy roof that’s made for shade.. Watch birds beneath from ample tree cover on the Woodland Loop. Stop off on a bench on the carr woodland sections of the Reedbed boardwalk or pop into the Reed Chamber midway along the walkway. Even better with an iced coffee, milkshake or ice cream cone from our café.

Watch the fish feed in the Coastal Creek Aviary

Watch the seas ducks dive for fish each day at noon, accompanied by a talk from WWT keepers. The large, glass sided diving duck tank gives underwater views of spectacled eiders, harlequin ducks and long tailed ducks who dive for their dinner.

Play!

We all need an outdoor adventure every now and then. Embrace the joy of playing outside in our wonderful Wetlands Explore wetlands with a ramble in the Meadow Maze to visit the honey bee’s bug hotel. Wander the twists and turns of the Reedbed boardwalk surrounded by towering reeds. Go wild in our new Pond Skater play area on wonderful wooden walkways, scramble nets, kid-sized bird houses and seesaws.

Take a Boat Safari

The best way to experience wetlands is by boat. Children See nature at its most tranquil with a wildlife guide. What will you spot on this specially guided wetlands trail through the reedbed? The boats are accessible to manual wheelchairs. Book your trip at the Admission Desk for £3 per person on the day of your visit.

A visit to Arundel Wetland Centre is a full, fun family day out. Bring a picnic for outdoor eating or try the Water’s Edge Café. The WWT gift shop has books, bird care and sustainable gift ideas with seasonal themes. Ready to visit?
