A More Accessible Martin Mere: Our latest updates

At WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, we believe that nature should be for everyone. That’s why we’re continually working to make our site more accessible so that visitors of all ages, abilities, and needs can experience the joy and wonder of our wetlands.

As part of our ongoing commitment, we’re proud to share some of the recent improvements we’ve made to ensure every visitor can enjoy their time with us to the fullest:

Paddle and Play

Our Paddle and Play area has been designed with accessibility in mind. Children of all abilities are invited to splash, explore, and enjoy this space, with wheelchair friendly inground trampolines and levelled surfaces.

New Accessibility Video

Planning a visit? Our brand-new subtitled accessibility video gives you a comprehensive look at what to expect when you arrive. From arrival to exploring the grounds, the video walks you through the facilities and features designed to support an inclusive experience.

Accessible Reedbed Walkway

Thanks to generous support from CMA CGM, we've created a new accessible path that allows more visitors to journey deeper into our reedbed habitat.

Staff and Volunteer Training

Staff and volunteers regularly receive training in areas such as British Sign Language (BSL), guide dog awareness, and dementia-friendly practices.

Quiet and relaxed sessions

Another requested addition was quiet and relaxed sessions during our events and activities. We introduced quiet pond dipping sessions throughout the summer, quiet mud shows and quiet puddle jumping during our February half term, and will continue to do so with future events.

We know accessibility is an ongoing journey, and we welcome feedback from our visitors. If you would like to get in touch with us regarding accessibility, please contact info.martinmere@wwt.org.uk.
