WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre in Lancashire is searching for enthusiastic new volunteers to help bring its visitor experience to life, as it prepares to welcome the return of Volunteering Week from Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th March.
There’s a range of roles available, including family activities, mid-week toddler sessions, visitor information desk, education, living history, videographer and face painter.
With drop-in sessions running daily from 2–4pm, anyone interested is invited to come along, meet the team and discover how they could play a part in making every visit to Martin Mere memorable. No booking is required.

Volunteers are at the heart of the visitor experience at Martin Mere, helping families, nature lovers and first-time visitors connect with wetlands and wildlife.
Volunteering at Martin Mere offers more than just the chance to support a leading conservation charity. Volunteers gain valuable experience, build confidence, meet new people and develop skills, all while spending time in a beautiful wetland setting.
Victoria Fellowes, Visitor Experience Manager at WWT Martin Mere, says: “Volunteers play a huge role in shaping the experience our visitors have, from the moment they arrive to the memories they take home. Volunteering Week is a relaxed and friendly way for people to find out what’s involved and see how their skills and interests could make a real difference.”
Alan Heaton, Volunteer at WWT Martin Mere, says: “I’ve always had a passion for nature, I just wondered how best I could utilise that. I used to visit Martin Mere for birdwatching, and I would help out with the commentary in the early days of the wild bird feeds.
“One of the volunteers here told me to go and get the uniform and make it official, which I eventually did and have been here ever since, helping with the canoe safari, guided walks, and other general roles.”
