We look forward to welcoming you back but please note that everyone needs to book their visit in advance. We’ve made other changes too and restricted or closed some of our experience. Visit the bookings page for details.

Washington re-opening information

Posted on 11 Jun 2020

We're so pleased to be able to open our doors to visitors. To allow us to do this, there are some strict guidelines we are following. All details are below. We ask that all visitors follow these guidelines in order to allow us to keep everyone safe.

  • All visitors must have a pre-booked ticket for the day they are visiting. This includes members and children under 4. This is to allow us to control numbers on site.
  • We open at 10am. Please do not arrive before this time.
  • We have a queuing system in place for the admissions which is temporarily relocated inside the main entrance to allow for social distancing - please have your tickets and membership cards ready to show the team.
  • Re-admission is not permitted at this time. With the exception of the admissions area at the start of your visit, there is no access to our visitor centre, which means the cafe and shop are closed.
  • There are 2 additional accessible portable toilets with baby change facilities within the grounds, 1 situated by Close Encounters and 1 opposite the play area.
  • There is a small selection of hot and cold drinks/snacks available for visitors to take away. The play area is closed.
  • All hides except the Princes Trust hide are open for visitors - with a maximum of 2 households allowed into each hide at a time. We ask visitors to vacate the hide after 10 minutes if others are waiting to enter to ensure fairness.
  • The otter holt and otter viewing platform are now open but we have limited capacity in those areas to facilitate social distancing. Again we ask visitors to vacate the area after 10 minutes if others are waiting.
  • No feeding our birds at this time.
  • There are lots of hand sanitising points around site, including at every gate and hide. Please do use them.
  • Staff will greet visitors on arrival to talk you through some of this information, and there are additional staff around site.
