Photo Competition, you really should enter!
We have received some really great photographs recently from visitors and WWT members. Some of these shots would have almost certainly been short listed in our current photography competition had they been entered! For tips on how to take good wetland wildlife images click here
This year's competition takes place over 12 months with four seasonal heats. During each season, we'll be looking for the best photos that represent that season. At the end of each heat winners representing each of WWT's nine wetland centres will be chosen from each category.
When the competition closes on 31 August 2012 all regional heat winners will go through to the grand national final to be held in autumn 2012, and our Portfolio Photographer will be chosen and awarded the grand prize of a trip to Antarctica.
The Rushy
LESSER SCAUP 1 female was found late afternoon. It looks to be the same female that spent last winter with us. It showed well just after the feed and came in front of the peng observatory with tufted Ducks
Holden Tower
Lots of geese feeding here this week including 130 E White-fronted and the 4 and 9 'continental' Greylags.
The Lapwing flock numbers around 1800 and the rain has filled many of the puddles on the Dumbles, this should encourage the Dunlin and Golden Plover to spend more time here over high tides.
Bewick's Swans have been using the Dumbles to feed too. The Peregrine Falcons are also present. On the estuary at high tide nine Grey Plover were present plus 5 Redshank. Some White-fronts were feeding in the Severn Ground, this is two fields to the North of the tower.
Zeiss Hide
The rain has raised water levels, about 600 Teal were feeding here today with a good supporting cast of other duck..Wigeon, Pintail, Bewick's Swans, Shoveler etc. Keep an eye out for the Bitterns.
