Only one Bewick's Swan remains

We've almost reached the stage when the last Bewick's Swan leaves, only one was present after ten departed last night. The two Whooper Swans are still on site moving between Rushy and Tack Piece.

Other sightings today included

Estuary Tower

287 Shelduck feeding upon the Severn silt deposits following this week's high tides, count includes the Dumbles and Lower Dumbles. A few Chiffchaff singing. 15 Lapwing late morning, the Meadow Pipits and Pied Wagtails feeding with Skylarks around the scrape.

Kingfisher Hide

The resident male Kingfisher was chasing off another very determined male, the female might just have started laying eggs, she was still around the nest hole later this morning. A Little Grebe also on the channel and nine Lapwing over the Bottom New Piece. Couple of Chiffchaff singing.

South Lake

Discovery Hide still closed but Hogarth Hide is open. Really trying to open the hide on the weekend.

A 2cy Yellow-legged Gull with 21 Herring Gull, Black-headed Gulls displaying, 104 Avocets with some mating/nest scraping, single Lapwing, 4 Oystercatcher, 200 Black-tailed Godwit, a female Goldeneye flew to the grounds.

Tack Piece

3 Ruff, 18 Redshank, 7 Curlew, 400+ Wigeon, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Teal, Shoveler and 45 Pintail. 3 Egyptian Geese but also visited the Rushy and last seen on the Four Score Ground from the Kingfisher Hide.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Only one Bewick's Swan on site today + 2 Whooper Swans, 48 Pintail also Spotted Redshank and 4 Black-tailed Godwit on the lower pond.

Top New Piece from Zeiss Hide

Very busy with waders late morning, most of the Black-tailed Godwits and quite a few of the Avocets moved here to feed.
