Overnight deluge and feeding bonanza

Overnight flooding

The heavy rain all day yesterday and overnight to this morning has created a lot of field flooding. The birds have all left the scrapes this morning to take advantage of the newly flooded areas to feed. There is little to no exposed mud as of the morning, this should subside as the rain has now stopped (by 1000hrs).

The Holden Tower and Dumbles are where most of the birds are feeding but the Bottom New Piece also has a lot of duck feeding in the wet bits.

The Long-billed Dowitcher was with 140 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Ruff, 30 Redshank, 80 Wigeon, 400 Teal, 120 Lapwing, 100 Curlew and probably a lot more on the grassy areas, it is likely that the American waders will also turn up in these areas too.

Two Pectoral Sandpipers were still present on the saltmarsh shelf this morning but again no sign of the Buff-breasted Sandpiper.

Some of the paths are puddled this morning and would require wellies to get through such as South Finger, The grounds paths are fine as is to the Holden Tower, wet in the tunnel but again this will clear now the rain has stopped.
