Phalarope returns on schedule

Red Necked Phalarope

A female dropped into the Robbie Garnett hide this morning then moved onto the Top New Piece in front of the Zeiss Hide. Quite possibly the same individual as last year having arrived at the same time.

Avocet

Now 9 pairs incubating at the Rushy with at least one other prospecting, still 7 pairs incubating at the Rushy with another pair marching there two young towards the Top New Piece. Off duty birds all over but no sign of the family at the Zeiss Hide this morning.

Cranes

At least 10 birds around the hides today, best views on the Tack Piece and from the Zeiss Hide.

Kingfishers

Very active feeding young near the South Lake, best chances of sightings are from the South Lake Discovery Hide and birds passing the Kingfisher hide to feed further south.

Others

Black Tailed Godwit showing well on the South Lake (19), Oystercatchers and Lapwings on most of the scrapes. First young Shelduck starting to appear and at least two broods of Gadwall from the Zeiss Hide. Cuckoo calling constantly from the South Finger area.

Land Rover Safaris

Good Safaris at the moment, highlights include Hobby and Marsh Harrier, Shoveler and Garganey and a growing selection of Dragonflies. Check on arrival to see if Safaris are running usually 11.00 and 14.00 weather permitting.
