Todays Sightings
Holden Tower
High Tide at 07.00 this morning but relatively few waders around. Some 200 Dunlin, one Grey Plover and a scattering of Redshank and Curlew. There was a big search for the Bonxie which appeared as the tide dropped towards the north of the hide. There was considerable Crane activity with a total of 13 birds (the highest for some time). The new birds were the three that moulted here in the summer so its good to see them again. The one unringed wild bird is still with the main group of 8. Lapwing and Golden Plover numbers were begining to build by 10.00 and an adult Peregrine was on the edge of the Dumbles as usual. At least two Chiffchaff were with Long Tailed Tits around the hide and a flock of around 80 Linnets on the Dumbles..
Zeiss Hide
Very "ducky" here again 930 Teal in the top field and at least another 300 in the lower one plus the usual scattering of Pintail, Shoveler and Wigeon. A roving flock of 300 Lapwing contained at least 3 Ruff and there was 6 Redshank and one Spotted Redshank. Water Rail and Cettis calling in the Reed bed but no sign of the Bittern.
Rushy
An increase to 12 Bewicks last night but only 4 so far this morning. The hybrid Ferruginous Duck was there as usual and the usual Pochard and Pintail.
South Lake
Teal 350
Black tailed Godwit 22
Gadwall 12
Shoveler 18
Visible Migration
Several lone Redpoll, one Siskin and a scattering of Redwing moving south the only sign of movement this morning.
