Todays Sightings

Rushy

At least 110 Bewick`s Swans overnight. Over 140 Pintail and 220 Pochard. Two Redshank a Snipe and around 100 Teal were to the back of the pond.

Great to see the Whitefronted Goose flock showing well there were 132 in this morning the highest count of the year so far. Two Cranes were nearby and 11 Redshank, 12 Curlew and 30 Dunlin were in the floods in the middle of the field.

Holden Tower

The Dumbles held big flocks of 1200 Lapwing and 80 Dunlin among them were at least 6 Ruff but it was the Wigeon that were most impressive with 1500 around the scrape. A Peregrine was on the Dumbles edge, a Sparrowhawk was seen and two Buzzards were along the sea wall hedge.  A single Raven flew over early on with two a little later in the day. Four Cranes landed and a single hybrid Ruddy Shelduck in the Long ground pool, later another two were out on the Estuary. There were 4 Roe Deer clearly visible to the north.

South Lake

Still Quiet here, three Redshank a Great Crested Grebe and around 80 Teal the high lights.

Zeiss Hide and South Finger

Another 1900 Wigeon seemed to be extra to the flock at the Holden also 700 Teal and 1600 Lapwing with at least 2 Ruff among them. Around 40 Dunlin and two Black Tailed Godwit were on the Scrape, Cettis and Water Rail were calling below the Hide showing only briefly and others along the South Finger. A Little Grebe was in the Reed Bed settlement pool and a fine Mistle Thrush was guarding its Mistletoe patch from the Kingfisher hide
