Todays Sightings

South Lake

Water levels up here after recent low levels. Lapwings are dropping in to wash and drink, just 250 there this morning but likely to be much larger noisy groups through the day. There were 25 Shoveler on the Lake and the usual Great Crested Grebe, Cormorants and diving ducks.

Rushy

There were at least 103 Bewick`s overnight, the Cranes spent a lot of time in here yesterday so check for them. Some 240 Teal were using the lower pool and flocks of Lapwing are dropping in here to wash and drink as well. otherwise the usual crowd of Pintails, Pochard and Tufted Duck with the single male Feruginous hybrid among them.

Martin Smith Hide

Snipe are being reported from here constantly, 2 there this morning and some great close up views of feeding Teal and the Buzzard seems glued to the fence post here.

Robbie Garnnett Hide and Holden Tower

Vast mobile flocks of waders are moving around between the various hides. So far this morning 3800 Lapwing 1900 Golden Plovers, but this likely to increase as birds move in through the morning, Dunlin were mostly on the Dumbles and reached 900 at high tide. The White-fronted Goose flock (142) were close to Holden Tower, a Peregrine was on the edge of the Dumbles, 42 Greater Black Backed Gulls and 4 of the Great Crane Project Cranes were feeding here as well apparently digging for leather jackets in the turf. Great close up views of around 60 Curlew especially from the Robbie Garnett and Stephen Kirk Hides.

Zeiss Hide

Dominated by 2200 Teal here, The wader flocks are dropping as well. there were 182 Black Tailed Godwits all fast asleep and some great close up views of 700 grazing Wigeon.
