Today's sightings

Holden Tower The Tack Piece has been the busiest place on the reserve today with flocks of Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, Lapwing and Golden Plover dipping in and out around the Peregrine Falcon visits. The latter species is to be regularly found perched on the Severn estuary foreshore tidal driftwood and the tallest trees at the back of the Tack Piece.

One Marsh Harrier was seen in the morning quartering the fields t the N. The Barn Owl came out around midday along the seawall. A disturbance to the  swan/goose flock pushed the White-fronted Geese and Bewick's Swans from their favoured grazing field late afternoon. The largest Teal, Pintail and Wigeon flocks were also gathered on the floods.

Other species noted on the Tack Piece and Dumbles today included Little Stint, Curlew, Redshank and Ruff. Oystercatcher was feeding around the tower all day as was a Mistle Thrush.
