Today's sightings
Holden Tower
Around twenty Lapwing on territory and up to 60 Golden Plover occasionally being hassled by them. Some of the latter are sporting the black fronted breeding plumage. A single Little Stint is among the 20 Dunlin on the floods. A Chiffchaff and Goldcrest were along the path.
Tack Piece
2 White-fronted Geese and the 1st winter Pink-footed Goose could be found among the Greylags. Up to nine Cranes from the Greta Crane Project have been seen today. 19 Pied Wagtail and 150 Wigeon are foraging in the drying pools, we are now draining this area in preparation for the summer grazing and hay growing. Small numbers of other wildfowl species are also present.
Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece
Up to 17 Avocet present here today as well as Wigeon, Teal and a few other wildfowl species. Also noted was a Great Crested Grebe. A Chiffchaff was calling from the wood.
Kingfisher Hide
10 Ruff noted out in the fields today as well as territorial Lapwing. The Barn Owl has been out hunting in the day time again.
South Lake
Up to 110 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Oystercatcher and 6 Avocet were all feeding/roosting here today
Rushy
110 Pintail, 3 Redshank and 11 Pochard remain.
