Todays Sightings
Rushy
Avocets looking great here, still three pairs incubating and lots of activity. The Oystercatchers have one chick that was very close to the hide this morning, it is pretty big now so hopefully beyond the predation stage. There was a newly hatched brood of Shelduck and the two Cranes flew over. A flock of 40 Black tailed Godwit were roosting on the new scrapes on the top pool this morning.
Holden Tower
One lone Crane here, still 7 Lapwings scattered across the Dumbles so it looks like the increased number of pairs this year may actually be converted to some fledged youngster. A Sparrowhawk flew over, the Great crested Grebes could be seen on the Long Ground pool, Reed and Cettis Warblers were singing in the reed bed.
On the Estuary
A high tide this morning but a single Grey Plover, 3 Dunlin and 9 Curlew were the only waders
Zeiss Hide
An increasing flock of Teal are already building up here, 16 were in the furthest pool in the Bottom New Piece field along with around 12 Shoveler. Two Redshank were the only waders so rather quiet.
