Today's sightings-plenty of waders

South Lake

Very busy with birdlife, a brilliant selection of wading birds were assembled on the scrape today due to the low water levels. Single Ruff, Common and Green Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 4 Little-ringed Plover (3 juveniles), 88 Black-tailed Godwit, 62 Redshank, 28 Dunlin, 4 Oystercatcher, 50 Lapwing were joined by a show-stopping 4 Garganey.

Large numbers of geese, ducks, Coot and a single Mandarin are also gathered here. 340 Black-headed Gull (26 juveniles, many have now left the breeding area). 2 Crane GCP seen here this afternoon.

A Peregrine caused a large scale flush, many birds moved to the Top New Piece.

Zeiss Hide

The Avocet flock is still present, 43 were counted with other waders. c20 Teal were feeding on the scrape. Two Oystercatcher on the islands. Water level should be dropping here so more waders will be present.

Holden Tower

Crane 4 GCP birds on the estuary. Curlew 100 and Oystercatcher 5 at high tide.

Robbie Garnett Hide

9+ Green Sandpiper, 4 GCP Cranes, 3 Lapwing.

Martin Smith Hide

Garganey juvenile (the 5th individual on site today)

Rushy

Avocet 7 juveniles nearly fledged, a few adults with them. 7 Green Sandpiper also noted here today.

General

Flocks of tits, warblers and finches are gathering in the hedges, plenty of dragonflies and butterflies are on the wing during the sunny spells.
