A drier but colder week has meant that water levels have dropped around the site. A little ice was found in parts of the shallow water areas but melted very quickly.

South Lake

Busy with both waders and ducks speciespresent, the single Bar-tailed Godwit among 167 Black-tailed Godwit again providing a challenge for those that are unfamiliar with these species. The scrape was initially iced up but thawed to allow feeding. A flock of 200 Lapwing were also here today. On the deep lake it is the favoured spot for many diving ducks as it is sheltered from the Northerly winds. Around 150 Pochard and 80 Tufted Duck were roosting here.

Holden Tower

At least 600 Wigeon on the scrape and estuary, smaller numbers of Teal and Barnacle Geese also present. The majority of the Bewick's Swans headed to the Dumbles for the day.

Tack Piece

At least 450 Dunlin and 500 Lapwing on the ice first thing, 800 Wigeon and 200 Teal were joined by lesser numbers of other duck species and Redshank.

Rushy Pen

At least one Greater Scaup was present early this morning.

Kingfisher Hide

The White-fronted Geese were here early but flew off to the Dumbles by 0930hrs.
