Tufted Duck broods every where.
Tufted Ducks
This late breeding species is really coming into the peak time for youngster. You can come across broods almost anywhere but some of the hot spots are The South Finger Reed Bed settlement pool (5 broods) South Lake (4 broods) and Rushy (3 broods). There is also a very confiding brood by the Martin Smith Hide bridge.
Zeiss Hide
Great little group of 23 Dunlin in full summer plumage feeding along with the Avocet flock 24 scruffy Lapwings and a single Greenshank that was flushed by the rampaging Long Horns.
South Lake
Fantastic views of the Black Tailed Godwit flock this morning (68) very close to the hides, the post breeding flock of Redshank numbered 48 were more scattered. Good activity from the Common Tern pair still not settled on a nest site but defending a number of the nesting rafts from Gull species. Nice to see the Great Crested Grebe chick looking big and past the very vulnerable stage.
Rushy
This years crop of young Avocet doing well here (7), the usual Oystercatchers a Grey Wagtail and a family of Pied Wagtails. Still lots of young Shelducks and 3 Green Sandpipers towards the back. Watch from the right hand end of the Martin Smith Hide if you cant see them from the Rushy hide.
Holden Tower and Tack Piece
Four Cranes wandering around the field, a Little Egret, at least 10 Green Sandpiper mainly from the Robbie Garnett. A Small roost of 18 Curlew and 30 GBB Gulls on the high tide and a Peregrine on the edge of the Dumbles.
