We have a good variety of wading birds albeit in small numbers about the reserve, a few more passage birds arrived over the weekend.

Estuary Tower

Whimbrel, 14 Curlew, 4 Lapwing, 7 Avocet Ringed Plover and Great Crested Grebe on the Severn. A flock of c20 Dunlin in flight with a single in the company of Ringed Plover.

South Lake

Three 3cy Mediterranean Gulls this afternoon, best views from Discovery Hide + Common Sandpiper still. 59 Black-tailed Godwit but much movement about the site, 69 Avocet, 4 Oystercatcher, nesting Crane, 100+ nesting Black-headed Gull, Green Sandpiper from Hogarth Hide, 33 Lesser Black-backed and 32 Herring Gulls.

The long staying Ruff but three newly arrived birds this morning, 14 Redshank, 3 Greenshank, Common Sandpiper and 2 Dunlin on the floods and scrape edge. White and Pied Wagtail, 3 Lapwing, 5 Wigeon, 16 Shoveler, 20 Teal, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 100+ Sand Martin, 4 Little Egret, drake Pochard, singing Reed Warbler.
