Winter Birding
Another relatively mild day with a few showers. The Mere was packed with birds throughout the day including 800+ Teal early on flushed by Marsh Harriers from Vinson/Sunley's Marsh.
Whooper Swan numbers are over 1000 and around 10000 Pink-footed Geese are coming into roost. A single Barnacle Goose was present on Plover Field early on. Fifty Gadwall from the Harrier Hide. At least twelve species of wildfowl present around the reserve.
Raptors included Merlin, 2 Peregrine, 2 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk. Barn Owl showed well from the Harrier Hide early on.
Good numbers of Lapwing with at least 800 birds and 50+ Ruff.
