Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Celebrating 50 years

On 1 March 2025, WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre turned 50.

We celebrated with a line-up of events and activities.

When WWT Founder Sir Peter Scott was introduced to the land by friend Ronnie Barker, he had a vision of a centre where wildlife could thrive and visitors could gain a passion for nature.

Purchased for £52,000 in the 1970s, the centre has welcomed over 7 million visitors and over 300,000 schools since it opened on 1 March 1975.

Thank you for joining us to reminisce, reflect, and create new memories with your friends and family all year long!
