Egrets

We now how at least five Great White Egrets about the reserve, one flew out of the Decoy this morning. At least 13 if not 16 Little Egrets are also roaming the ditches, scrapes and pools.

It was pleasing to see a pair of Common Tern nest scraping on one of the islands, this pair have been around all day visiting other areas. The Bar-tailed Godwit remains on the flood with at least five Black-tailed Godwit and 10 Avocet for company. At least three drake and one female Shoveler, 31 Gadwall and two Mallard x Wigeon sp hybrids were also here. At least four Redshank fed on the fringes. Additionally-19 Shelduck, 4 Shoveler, 2 Little Egret and Grey Heron.

Rushy

Little-ringed Plovers continue to incubate eggs in the protective cage + additional bird feeding, two more Avocet broods have hatched, the Oystercatcher family (three chicks) and the Wigeon female with Chiloe Wigeon hybrid male. A Red Kite flew over.

South Lake

Thirteen 13 broods of Avocet, 28 chicks, 27 Black-tailed Godwit, two broods of Oystercatcher, Little-ringed Plover, Crane, singing Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Blackcap adjacent to the Discovery Hide.

Tack Piece

Ross's Goose settled with the Barnacle Geese closer to the Estuary Tower.

Middle Point

Two Crane, 22 Ringed Plover and 9 Dunlin on the mudflats, a Curlew on the Dumbles.

Long Ground Pool

Drake Garganey briefly, it flew off and two Little Grebes.
