Aftermath of Storm 'Brian'
The winds were still gusting over the morning tide which resulted in a few tired seabirds.
Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece
A tired Kittiwake was resting on the shore of the flood, a party of c100 Dunlin, 5-6 Little Stint and 2 Ruff were also seen. Later in the day up to 19 Ruff, three Red Knot and a Redshank were among the Black-tailed Godwits. A Peregrine was hunting at times and could be seen on the foreshore fence posts.
The Red-breasted Goose was among the Barnacle Geese in the Bottom New Piece, also the Lapwing flock and 6+ Curlew fed here. A couple of Stonechats could also be seen on the fence lines.
Middle Point
A juvenile Gannet floated past on the tide eventually flying North, it was seen again in the distance beating it's way up and down the shore. A Kittiwake flew upriver and appeared to go inland. A Short-eared Owl was seen over in flight.
Holden Tower
Flocks of Greylag among the sheep and 4 Raven flew through.
South Lake
8 Pochard, 5 Snipe, 4 Avocet, 6 Red Knot, 2 Spotted Redshank, 11 Redshank, 12 Ruff and an adult Mediterranean Gull (see below) were among the highlights.
Rushy Hide
9 Pintail, 9 Pochard, 103 Tufted Duck, 2 Ruff, Redshank and 8 Shoveler.
