Bittern reappearance

A cold night led to a dawn frost and iced up ponds, it has been a cold, still morning with sunshine at times which often leads to Bittern sightings. Right on cue, some visiting birders spotted one below the Zeiss Hide in the reeds and rush briefly this morning.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

384 Golden Plover, 358 Black-tailed Godwit, 407 Dunlin, 277 Lapwing, 28 Wigeon, 375 Teal, 250 Lapwing, Peregrine and Grey Heron.

Estuary Tower

750+ duck on the estuary, mostly Wigeon and Pintail, likely to be higher numbers seen over high tide as they will be pushed into view. The eight Pink-footed Geese on the Lower Dumbles.

Kingfisher Hide

Grey Heron, Buzzard, 250 Lapwing and a Great Spotted Woodpecker on the feeders.

South Lake

The wader scrape is frozen so only 2 Black-tailed Godwit so far this morning but 427 Lapwing, 97 Shelduck, 64 Shoveler, 6 Egyptian Goose roosted, two remained, 92 (80% males), Tufted Duck 90 (60 males), 8 Gadwall, 64 Teal and Grey Heron.
