Brent Geese are back

Three Dark-bellied Brent Geese were on the Dumbles this morning with the rest of the goose flock which also included the 8 Pink-footed Geese and an Egyptian Goose.

Three Dark-bellied Brent Geese were on the Dumbles this morning with the rest of the goose flock which also included the 8 Pink-footed Geese and an Egyptian Goose. The White-fronted Goose flock continues to feed to the north of the Tack Piece in the Goose Fields, usually viewable from the Estuary Tower.

A nice flock of Curlew have spent the day on the Tack Piece, including at least two of the head-started birds released earlier last year. To the north three Whooper Swan could be seen in the Goose House Ground. Two Cranes, Kia and Chocolo, were also on the Tack Piece along with 7 Redshank, 15 Dunlin and several hundred duck. The Lapwing and Golden Plover flock is moving between all the fields. Out on the Dumbles goose numbers included the three Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 8 Pink-footed Geese, 210 Barnacle Geese, 148 Canada Geese and the single Egyptian Goose, Bar-headed Goose and hybrid.

Zeiss Hide
Counts from the Top New Piece this morning included 8 Shoveler, another three Egyptian Geese, 304 Teal and 530 Wigeon.

South Lake
The deep lake held 35 Tufted Duck and 75 Pochard this morning, whilst over on the wader scrape were 254 Black-tailed Godwit, 706 Lapwing, 103 Shoveler, two Snipe, another two Egyptian Goose, 28 Teal and 9 Common Gull.
