Cattle Egret on South Lake

South Lake

A Cattle Egret was present mid afternoon, it may be feeding with the Longhorn cattle that are in the roadside fields. A Little Egret was also noted. On the deep lake a party of 10 or so Pochard were accompanied by Tufted Ducks. The Great Crested Grebe remains. The wader scrape was busier with 130 Black-tailed Godwit and a single Ruff and Knot seen today. A gathering of c40 Herring, 2 Lesser Black-backed and 160 Black-headed Gulls on the wader scrape.

Rushy Hide

No counts as I had a birdwatch morning group today, Pochard, Mallard, Shelduck, Pintail and Tufted Duck all present in numbers. The Redshank and Little Grebe remain.

Tack Piece

100s Wigeon and Teal, 4 Curlew, 4 Redshank, 500 Lapwing and 560 Golden Plover.

Holden Tower

Female Sparrowhawk, Buzzard and 2 Peregrine today, 27 European White-fronted Geese were among the Greylag, Barnacle and Canada Geese. 8+ Skylark on the grasslands.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

Very busy with birds, 26+ Snipe, 10+ Ruff, 130 Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Knot, 2 Redshank, 500 Lapwing and c70 DunlinĀ among the waders noted. A flock of c40 Pintail, 560 Wigeon, 400 Teal andĀ 703 Canada Geese. Singing Cetti's Warbler in the reedbed.

Big Pen

The single Bewick's Swan remains faithful to this site.
