Good day for raptors

A sunny September day usually leads to numerous raptor sightings, the Wild Safaris proved this to be the case today. 5+ Buzzard, 2+ Hobby, 3+ Kestrel and Sparrowhawk were all seen on the 11:30am-1pm session. We also logged a Great White Egret, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Grey Heron, 100+ Curlew, 50+ Shelduck as well as Roe Deer, Small Heath butterfly, numerous Migrant Hawker, Common and Ruddy Darter Dragonflies, and 3 Grass Snakes.

Other highlights as follows

Rushy Hide

At least 2 Snipe, 12 Lapwing as well as 35 Teal among the other ducks present.

Tack Piece

A few Black-tailed Godwit, small Lapwing flock and 30+ Teal.

Knott Hide

10+ Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 5+ Blackcap + Reed and Sedge Warbler.

Middle Point

Great White Egret toured the reserve before heading N, 2 Little Egret, 196 Curlew, 168 Shelduck, 2 Curlew Sandpiper with 5 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover heard.

South Lake

Two Little-ringed Plover, 22 Redshank, 17 Ruff, 229 Black-tailed Godwit, 3+ Snipe, small numbers of Teal, Tufted Duck, Gadwall and Shoveler, 8 Shelduck back on the scrapes.

Top New Piece

Two juvenile Ruff, 15 Avocet, 8 Redshank, 180 Teal, 1 Wigeon, Barh-headed Goose with the Canada Geese.

Kingfisher Hide

12 Crane on the wheat stubble. Also Common Whitethroat.
