Little Gull

South Lake
quiet here except for a stunning adult Little Gull with just a blush of pink. Otherwise just 2 Avocet a common sandpiper and the Great and Little Grebes were on the lake. An osprey was reported heading north around 11.00
Rushy
So busy with several dozens of pairs of Black Headed Gulls displaying and nest building. The bulk of the avocet are here with 33 this morning and 46 by the afternoon. Several pairs already looking like they are incubating. Best of all a Little ringed Plover was performing close to the hide. Single Med Gull, Redshank and Blackwit as well.
Tack Piece
Still 11 Wigeon and a scattering of Teal and Shoveler. A single Ruff and 15 Redshank were on the halfway flash and a Snipe in front of the Martin Smith Hide. Ree and Sedge Warbler Blackcap Chiffchaff Willow and cettis Warbler all singing along the walkway.
Zeiss Hide
A stunning flock of 368 Blackwits mostly summer plumage adults, single Curlew and whimbrel with 4 Barwits on the edge of the dumbles at the top of the tide with a lone Raven. Very active redshank with 6 pairs displaying and prospecting. Still at least 5 incubating lapwing and the odd snipe. Two Greenshank were roosting on the scrape and 3 Ruff were seen distantly. The two Cranes are still incubating but came off the nest when a Fox was seen some distance away. Reed Sedge and Cettis Warblers, Blackcap and Chiffchaff all singing nearby. A drake Garganey appeared from 14.35.
Kingfisher Hide
Very little activity from the Kingfishers (due to hatch next w/e). Little Grebe and Tufted Duck on the pool and one of the better spots to catch up on your butterflies. Speckled Wood, Holly Blue, Brimstone and Orange Tip to name a few. As every where Sedge, Reed, Willow and Cettis Warblers, Blackcap and Chiffchaff all singing along the walkway
