Ringed Plover and Sanderling on the Tack Piece

Tack Piece

Lots to see on the Tack piece today including 2 Avocet, 5 Tufted Duck, 45 Shelduck, an Egyptian goose, an Oystercatcher, and a Barn Swallow. From Martin Smith Hide a nice group of waders were visible 55 Ringed Plover, 28 Dunlin, and 2 Sanderling.

The Rushy

First thing in the morning there were 66 Avocet.

South Lake

On the South Lake, there were 22 Black-tailed Godwit, 35 Gadwall, 17 Avocet, 3 Cormorant, Little Grebe and a singular Egyptian Goose.

Estuary Tower

There was a Peregrine, 2 Brent Geese, 39 Shelduck, 3 Oystercatcher, 2 Avocet, Lapwing, Shoveler, Teal, Gadwall, Little Egret, plus usual Corvids, Gulls, Geese, and Wood Pigeons.

Shepard’s Hut

The Bluethroat was showing well this morning singing from a perch in the reed bed to the left of the path. Reed and Sedge Warblers, Reed Bunting, and Lesser Whitethroat were singing. Just before the tide came in 41 small waders were on the Estuary, most of which were Ringed Plover and few Dunlin.

Kingfisher Hide

In the morning both the Kingfishers were seen outside of the hole and later in the day, they made many visits into their nest suggesting they were still feeding young. A Cuckoo was heard and a Buzzard flew over, 2 Pairs of Tufted Duck, 2 pairs of Shelduck, 2 Sedge Warbler, and singing Reed and Cetti Warblers, Blackcap, and Chiffchaff.

Zeiss Hide

From Zeiss Hide 20 Avocet, 41 Black-tailed Godwit, 35 Shelduck, 3 Shoveler, 1 Greenshank, and 2 Cranes with one visible chick but displaying feeding behaviour that suggests two.
