Sunday 25 May

Rushy Hide and Tack Piece

Breeding plumage Cattle Egret

South Lake

Both 3cy and 2cy Mediterranean Gull resting on the rocks, north side of north causeway at 09:45am, also 4 Dunlin, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 drake and two female Shoveler, 4 Oystercatcher, 112 Avocet, 1 Redshank, three broods of Mallard, drake Teal, Black-headed Gull colony with chicks.

Middle Point

Mediterranean and Common Gull on the Severn North of Middle Point plus 18 Sanderling. Male White-spotted Bluethroat still.

Top New Piece

Two Spoonbill and a Ruff, 43 Gadwall, six Avocet.

Tack Piece

25 Gadwall, 3 pairs Tufted Duck, Lapwing, 4 Oystercatcher, 40 Shelduck, female Wigeon + Greylag and Barnacle Geese



Friday 23 May

South Lake

At least 112 Avocet, one pair with a couple of chicks. Black Swan, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, pair of Oystercatcher nesting on the Roof, 1 Little Egret, 17 Tufted Duck, 3 Stock Dove and a Kingfisher flyby.

Rushy Lake

46 Avocet, 19 Tufted Duck and 1 Oystercatcher.

Kingfisher Hide

Female Kingfisher to the right of the nest bank, a Roe Deer on Bottom New Piece, Cetti's, Reed and Sedge Warblers singing.

Zeiss Hide

30 Shelduck, 2 Spoonbill, 42 Gadwall, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Avocet and 2 Redshank.

Shepherds Hut Hide

Male White-spotted Bluethroat, Short-eared Owl, 2 Reed Bunting, 2 Sedge and 3 Reed Warbler and Swallows.

Estuary
Greenshank, 21 small waders - looked good for Sanderling (bit distant/hazy)

Robbie Garnett Hide

Great and Little Egret.


Thursday 22 May

Duck Decoy

Kingfishers feeding young.

South Finger Walkway

Blackcap, Common Whitethroat, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Wren, Chiffchaff, Cetti’s Warbler , Long-tailed Tits, Blue Tits, Robin, most calling or singing. The Cuckoo is patrolling the area.

Top New Piece

Two Spoonbill on scrape, 19 Avocet, 2Redshank, 3 Black-tailed Godwit and a Ruff. Also Mallard, Shoveler, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Shelduck, Black-headed Gulls, Canada and Greylag Geese. much Reed Warbler activity in the reed beds.

Middle Point from Shepherds Hut

Male White-spotted Bluethroat, Sedge and Reed warbler, Skylark, 8 Crane, Reed Bunting, 7 Curlew, 2 Raven, Little Egret, 2 Linnet and a Cuckoo was heard

5 Oystercatcher, 15 Gadwall, 1 Redshank, 3 Great Egret

Rushy

12 Tufted Duck, 1 Teal, 1 Jay, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 10 Gadwall, 2 Oystercatcher, 45 Avocet

Car Park

Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Reed Warbler, Skylark, Greenfinch family with 2 young, Little Egret, Cetti’s Warbler and Common Whitethroat

South Lake

Ten Cattle Egret, Little Grebe and Tufted Ducks, Gadwalls on the deep lake. Three Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Redshanks, a Common Sandpiper and at least 28 Avocet nests on the islands and causeways. Oystercatchers with young and other pairs still nesting.



Wednesday 21 May

Middle Point

Male White-spotted Bluethroat still singing with Reed Buntings, Reed and Sedge Warblers also in song. Six Grey Plover, 4 Sanderling, 6 Dunlin and 20 Ringed Plover on the mudflats and a Marsh Harrier hunting the shoreline.

Top New Piece

Two Spoonbill on the islands.


Tuesday 20 May

Kingfisher Hide

Young have fledged, courtship for second nesting attempt is underway.

Decoy Hide

Kingfishers feeding young in bank far left side of pond.

Middle Point

Male White-spotted Bluethroat, 2 Reed Bunting and Sedge Warbler all singing, 101 Ringed Plover, 6 Grey Plover, 6 Dunlin, 3 Curlew and 8 Sanderling on the mudflats.

Rushy Hide

Both ponds busy with the Avocet (includes a colour ring bird, Dark Green over Dark Blue L above, Lime over Orange R above) and Black-headed Gull colonies, pair of Oystercatcher and Lapwing, Tufted Ducks, Shelducks, Mallards, Moorhens, Coots and a Shoveler.

South Lake

Little-ringed Plover, pair of Redshank, two pairs of Oystercatcher, one with two chicks, two Black-tailed Godwit, 80+ Avocet, two broods of Mallard, Little Grebes, a few Shoveler and Gadwall on the scrape.

Withy Bed from the path

Singing Common Whitethroat.

Car Park

Cuckoo singing just to the North but mobile.

Grounds

A couple of singing Sedge Warbler, 5+ Reed Warbler, Kingfisher and couple of pairs of Oystercatcher.

Great and Little Egrets at the end of right hand channel and nesting Oystercatcher on the field.

Kingfisher pair showing well Decoy Hide - Kingfisher pair showing up regularly with fish.

Short-eared Owl hunting along seawall and shore.

Two Spoonbills and Common Sandpiper, 8 Redshank, Lapwing with four young, pair of Teal, 21 Gadwall, singing Reed and Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting from Zeiss Hide.
