Tuesday 2 September

An Osprey stirred up the birds on the Severn around 5.40pm as it caught a fish, it flew from the Severn, south of Middle Point towards the grounds with the prize.

Middle Point

Five Red Knot, 6 Avocet and 4 Dunlin to the North, the three Spoonbill for much of the day off Middle Point following a walk through survey by the EA. Two Whinchat on the fence and a Wheatear along the seawall to the North.


Monday 1 September

Long Ground Pool

Two Cattle Egret early morning, later a Cattle Egret was with Great Egret and Green Sandpiper in the grounds (South American Pen) but all flew out on seeing a member of staff.

South Lake

Three Ruff, 3 Green Sandpiper, mixed flock of 300 Teal, Gadwall and Shoveler, Tundra Bean Goose with the Greylag flock.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Two Garganey among the Teal and Gadwall, 12 Ruff, Spotted Redshank,4+ Snipe, 20+ Redshank, 70+ Black-tailed Godwit among other species present. A juvenile Cattle Egret.

Tack Piece

Juvenile Red Knot, 8 Green Sandpiper, Snipe and Black-tailed Godwits among the Teal. Good views of the partially leucistic Lapwing on the the isthmus with the Lapwing flock.

Top New Piece

The juvenile Temminck's Stint again on the flood islands from around midday, its visits may be tidal related. The three long-staying Spoonbills, three juvenile Wood Sandpipers, Green Sandpiper, a Bittern showed along the East edge of the fleet but was only viewable from Van de Bovenkamp hide. Ruff and Black-tailed Godwits also coming and going and 50+ Sand Martin feeding over and occasionally resting on the mud. A juvenile Marsh Harrier has been hunting over so moving the birds about.

Middle Point

Flock of Avocets to North, 74 Dunlin and 63 Ringed Plover in two flocks + 2 Sanderling + Curlew, Shelducks and 100s of Black-headed Gulls, Grey Heron and Little Egrets.
