The rain continues

A few dry spells have emerged today but it has been another predominately wet day.

Zeiss Hide
Waders on the scrape this morning included 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Redshank, 23 Lapwing and 46 Avocet. A Cormorant was fishing along the reedbed edge near the Van de Bovenkamp Hide. A pair of Cranes were in the long grass of the Bottom New Piece over the fence anda Cuckoo was singing from the South Finger. Duck included 24 Shelduck plus 3 broods of ducklings and 5 Teal.

South Lake
The Black-tailed Godwit flock numbered 61 birds this morning. Two pairs of Oystercatcher were on the scrape, occasionally arguing. Also present were 3 Teal, 9 Avocet and 56 Gadwall whilst 4 Great Crested Grebe were on the deep lake.

Martin Smith Hide
An adult Sedge Warbler was busy feeding at least 2 fledglings around the pool edge.

Robbie Garnett Hide
A pair Oystercatcher were on the Tack Piece, a Green Sandpiper was close to the hide and out on the field were 112 Barnacle Geese, 2 Grey Heron and 74 Shelduck with another pair on the water with 10 ducklings. A Little-ringed Plover was on the shoreline.

Rushy Hide
A total of 30 Avocet plus at least 11 chicks were on the lower pond this morning, the Oystercatcher pair with 3 chicks were very close to the hide and in amongst the Black-headed Gull loaf/roost were 3 Mediterranean Gulls. A Little-ringed Plover was nest scraping on the island in the lower pond, a Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Green Sandpiper were feeding towards the back and a Shelduck pair with brood of 5 were noted.
