Today's sightings
After a prolonged dry spell, rain all day on Friday and Sunday has pushed water levels up on some scrapes such as the Rushy, Tack Piece and Top New Piece. If no more rain falls the levels will drop as the fields drain off. The best exposed mud can be found on South Lake along with most of the waders but the Top New Piece also offers wet mud today. The Decoy Pool (Gulf Hide) has filled up a bit hence 8 Green Sandpiper being present in there this morning.
South Lake
At least 113 Black-tailed Godwit, 80 Redshank (6 juveniles), 2 ale Ruff, 3 juvenile Avocetand 94 Lapwing on the wader scrape. Large numbers of duck (Mallard, Gadwall, Shoveler, Teal) are present on the lake along with rafts of Coot, Greylag Goose and the family of Great Crested Grebe (look out for stripy headed juvenile). A pair of Common Tern are still present but it is getting late in the season for a final breeding attempt.
