Today's sightings

Holden Tower

Large flock of 72 Arctic Terns, a dark and intermediate phase Arctic Skua and two Common Terns all downriver this morning between 0740 and 0900. A large flock of Dunlin and Ringed Plover are feeding out on the flats.

A Whimbrel remains among the Curlew flock on the grassland areas of the Dumbles along with up to 40 Black-tailed Godwit

South Lake

Long billed Dowitcher is still to be found on the wader scrape with the 260 Black-tailed Godwit, 70+ Redshank and a juvenile Ruff. Lots of duck are present most in eclipse plumage (in camouflaged moult) but one or two are moulting into a decent plumage. Male Teal and Gadwall for example. Cormorants, Great Crested Grebe, Tufted Ducks and Shoveler are all present in good numbers and a large flock of day roosting Black-headed Gull.

Zeiss Hide

Four juvenile Ruff, two Greenshank and varying numbers of Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit and Green Sandpiper also present. Large numbers of Teal and a few Shoveler and Gadwall are on the water.

Robbie Garnett Hide/Tack Piece

Wood Sandpiper is still with a few Green Sandpipers on the scrape.
