Torrential rain brings a fall of waders

Rain overnight followed by a very heavy downpour mid morning produced a decent fall of wading birds to the estuary and scrapes. Some very high counts of certain species were very notable.

2 Marsh Harriers were around the reserve as a new in juvenile has appeared. 14+ Project Cranes are also here. The family are still present. At least 50 Yellow Wagtail are on site, a flock of 35 were seen mobbing a Kestrel, flocks are among the cattle on the reserve, a few around the centre. Three each of Wheatear and Whinchat were noted.

Wood Sandpiper- 3 juveniles seen together on the Top New Piece, one seen from Robbie Garnett Hide could be different or part of the same party.
Ruff- at least 50 (probably a few more) on site (17 on the estuary and 33 on the scrapes).
Greenshank-at least 34 on site, most were off Middle Point, very mobile with 12 seen in the Rushy.
Ringed Plover-at least 317 on the estuary.
Dunlin at least 175.
Also on the estuary- Red Knot 15 juveniles,  Turnstone 1, Sanderling 2, Golden Plover 1, Grey Plover 1, Little Stint 1 juvenile, 11 Avocet, 40 Black-tailed Godwit, 126 Curlew, 2 Common Sandpiper, Common Tern 1.

South Lake

Wigeon, Black-tailed Godwit 148, Redshank 26 including 1 juvenile, Ruff 5, Lapwing 319, Common Sandpiper, 40 Gadwall, 2 Great Crested Grebe, Teal 93.

Zeiss Hide

See above- includes the flock of Ruff, 3 Wood Sandpipers and 150+ Teal.

Green Sandpiper 7, Common Sandpiper, Wigeon 2,
