What a difference

What a difference a day makes as temperatures drop more than 10 degrees

What a difference a day makes as temperatures drop more than 10oC. Sadly with the dry weather and local circumstances we are struggling for water in some areas, and coming up with creative solutions to manage the situation and keep areas good for our wildlife.

South Lake
We're struggling from water here on the wader scrape. Over on the deep lake were a Little Grebe and 49 Gadwall, a newly hatched Black-headed Gull chick on one of the rafts, whilst the last juveniles were fledging from the islands nearby. A brood of two Tufted Duck were with Mum amongst 25 other adults.

Rushy Hide
Most of our waders have relocated here including the two Spotted Redshank, 11 male Ruff, a Green Sandpiper, 30 Redshank, 39 Black-tailed Godwit, three Lapwing, and an Avocet. A newly hatched brood of Mallard were also on the lower pond.

Robbie Garnett Hide
Six Green Sandpiper were on the Tack Piece along with two male Ruff, a brood of 7 fledged Shelduck and parents, and a single Redshank.

Middle Point
The two Spoonbill were close to point this morning, viewable from the path as you approach. Across the mudflats were 121 Curlew including a yellow leg flagged bird from WWT's Severn & Avon Vale Curlew Project. Also of note were a single Ringed Plover, 26 Dunlin, a Little Egret, two Grey Heron, and a pair of Crane on the mudflats. A Peregrine was also hunting the area, as was a Kestrel along the seawall.
