Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Bird News

Another very pleasant day with light winds and mostly sunny. Two Peregrine active for most of the day scaring the 1500+ Lapwing and 80+ Ruff into chaotic swirling flocks.

Marsh Harrier from the Ron Barker Hide eating a dead goose. At least 4 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel also present.

Again the single Bewick's Swan present throughout the day on the Mere with Whooper Swans.

Stonechat from the Ron Barker Hide.

No surprise to note Snowdrops in flower near the Raines Hide.
