Hoopoe!!

A HOOPOE was seen this morning flying up the seawall from the Zeiss Hide, then cut in land past the Holden Tower just after 8.30. It was last seen heading for the Rushy and hopefully will be re-found somewhere. This is a very rare visitor to us here at Slimbridge (4th record) and a scarce visitor to the UK normally overshooting their breeding areas in the Mediterranean. There has been a big influx of them into the country in the last few week, see more details in this excellent write up by Rare Bird Alert
