The largest flock of European White-fronted Geese ever recorded on the reserve flew in today around midday. The previous record was actually from last week with 13 birds. At least 27 were seen together, a mixed group of adults and juveniles. Around 20 Barnacle Geese, 200+ Greylag and 2000+ Pink-fotted Geese, most coming in late.
Two Short-eared Owls hunting in the morning. Three Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier reported, Peregrine, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
Around 700 Lapwing, 12 Black-tailed Godwit, 60+ Ruff and 2 Dunlin.
The most interesting report was that of a Marsh Tit, if confirmed it would be a first for the reserve. This autumn we have had regular sightings of Willow Tit.
