Latest Sightings

The past few days here on the reserve at Martin Mere have been busy with bird life.
1 Glossy Ibis, which has been seen on site since last Thursday, has been observed once again today from the Ron Barker hide and the Discovery hide. Other birds spotted from Discovery hide this week include 7 Snipe, 8 Black-Tailed Godwits, 3 Pintail, 25 Teal, 3 Herring Gulls, 5 Shelduck and 11 Cormorants.
1 Sparrowhawk male was seen from Janet Kear hide and from the high bank along the path to Gordon Taylor hide, where 1 Bittern and 3 Kestrels were also spotted. 1 Cetti's Warbler was heard from a bush nearby, and 1 Kingfisher was seen flying down the sluice from the bridge leading toward Rees hide.
From the harrier hide today, 1 Peregrine was observed soaring high in the sky, causing the Greylag Geese, Lapwings and Canada Geese inhabiting the pond beneath it to flee.
On the opposite end of the reserve from the Ron Barker hide, 6 Ruff and 5 Grey Herons were seen feeding in the Sunleys pond.
